Communitas Stewardship Project
WHAT IS THIS PROJECT?
It is a casual/causal space of soil and souls coming together to experiment and experience "a living" together. It is a place where the city connects with the country, the traveller grounds, and for all to practice patience with ourselves and each other as we grow into this space of the Neo Nomadic Village. Home is where you find yourself.
This project has now completed in the location of Galiano Island but continues in our
hearts. The outline for the project follows for future inspiration.
WHAT DOES A STEWARD GET TO DO?
Participate in the creation, care and harvest of the gardens and the animals.
Create art, test out ideas, garden experiments etc to your/our delight.
Participate in deep communication and Council/group decision making.
Attend semi-annual weekend long gatherings.
As of March 2010, there will be two young children living here full time so we will also have the opportunity to "be the village that raises its children". Karyna welcomes your participation with her warm El Salvadorian ways.
This is like taking an experiential course in Living Community where we are all the teachers and the students.
Other activities/projects you may be involved in are sweat lodge, ceremony, green house development, garden/permaculture, food experiments (cheese, soap, pestos etc) , workshops, animal care, and more. Please refer to the application form for more details.
Independant yet inclusive of Communitas, is the local Galiano Food Program which has been outstanding in its work to connect people with their food and their community.
The schedule for booking space for visits will be made available to you via Google Docs once your Stewardship begins.
HOW YOU CAN BECOME A STEWARD
We ask that each Steward make a one-time Community Development Divinevestment of $200 - $1000 that will be used to support ideas, improvements and community art/outreach projects over the three years.
Once you are a Steward, there is a contribution of $10 per night you are here and something from the food contribution list. You will be provided with a bed (bring your own sheets and pillow case), kitchen staples such as rice, oats, olive oil, and the harvest of the farm. You may also take on a monthly Stewardship for $250 per month.
A Steward may bring one guest. Additional guests will also contribute $10 per night
and only if space if available. Children are welcome. Dogs only if they are gentle with
children and animals.
Fill in the application form so that we can best “apply” your offerings and desires to help give form to the community.
USE OF SPACE
The kitchen/meals will be shared with regard for the needs of the resident family. You may be vegetarian, carnavorian, raw or breatharian. It is all the same here for we thrive on sharing our ways.
We have two bedrooms and a 300 sq foot more private studio available for Stewards. The maximum capacity for the resources of this land is six people at one time.
The configuration of the rooms are as follows:
Studio – one queen and one single
Upstairs East – one double or queen bed and a single
Downstairs – one double
There is also a summer "elf" cabin, tent site and hammock.
There is one indoor bathroom and an outdoor one. Showering is seasonally limited
as we are on a well.
We have two cats that live inside the main house but not the studio space for those
with allergies.
We are a non recreational smoking environment (no recreational tobacco or marijauna use please)
